Lydia IUD Training for Providers…
admin

In keeping with our promise to increase access to long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), DKT Nigeria conducted several IUD Training-to-Certification sessions for providers operating in private hospitals across ten Local Government Areas in Lagos state.  The first component of the program began with a full day of classroom training on uterus models, familiarization with instruments and techniques for IUD insertions. The training focused on the four variants of Lydia IUDs, (Lydia Copper T, Lydia Sleek, Lydia Safeload and Lydia Copper Y) and the inter-uterine system (IUS), Eloira.

The second part of the training involved practical IUD counseling and insertion sessions by the provider-trainees held at two clinics (Fasti hospital Ilupeju) and Labake hospital, Ilasamaja). DKT also encouraged the provider-trainees to hold outreaches and integrate family planning services into existing healthcare services like ante/postnatal care, immunization, and childcare and routine outpatient consultations. These outreaches were used as a platform to mobilize women to visit clinics in order to be oriented about family planning and receive a subsidized-to-free IUD insertion/service during the certification/ supportive supervision period.

The third component of the training took place at the different clinics of the provider-trainees where each provider-trainee carried out a minimum of ten (10) Lydia IUD insertions satisfactorily under the supervision of a Master Trainer and was subsequently, awarded a certificate of completion.

Furthermore, DKT Nigeria supported the IUD trained providers with a Starter Pack which contains clinical instruments /consumables including Tenaculum, Sponge Holding Forceps, Vaginal Speculum, Sterile Drapes, Sterile gloves, Uterine Sound, Sterile Apron and Head Lamp.

Participating facilities during the IUD Training batch were the following clinics/ facilities; Sentinel hospital Oshodi- Isolo, CRI Ibeju-lekki /Eti-Osa, Solid Rock hospital Ojodu, Ifo, Ladilak Hospital Shomolu, St. Raphael Hospital Okota, Hilton Hospital Apapa, SiloanMedical Center Ejigbo, Light hospital Alimosho, El Shaddai Hospital Ojo, Precious Gift hospital Isolo, Life fount Medical Center Igando, Promise Medical Center Ifo, Los Angeles hospital Alimosho, May Central hospital Shomolu.
